Quantity Takeoff, and Why the Units Decide Everything

Quantity takeoff is the measurement of what a project physically requires, expressed in the units it is bought and installed in. Concrete in cubic yards. Formwork in square feet of contact area. Rebar in tons. Drywall in sheets or square feet. Conduit in linear feet by size. Doors in each. The list is the skeleton of the estimate — every cost line hangs off a quantity, and a quantity in the wrong unit is worse than a missing one, because it prices out to a plausible number nobody questions.
